The History of Christmas Cards

Christmas Cards Throughout History

Many people think of Christmas cards as a relatively modern social nicety, but the custom actually has its roots in roots in ancient Egypt. Papyrus scrolls were used to exchange greetings among family, friends and neighbors. Evidence has also been found that ancient Chinese societies used rudimentary forms of greeting cards to convey good wishes for the coming New Year.

It wasn’t until 15th century Rome, however, that Christmas cards began to become standard in upper class household. Paper was just beginning to become available to a larger number of people, and Christmas cards and other forms of greetings were handmade by the sender rather than purchased in retail outlets. In Germany, woodcuts were used in lieu of paper, and the items often gained heirloom status among the individuals to whom they were sent.

Valentine’s Day cards also began to become popular in the 15th century, and in keeping with the times, many of these were elaborately ornate creations that served as works of art in their own right. it is not clear whether the Valentine’s Day fad evolved to include Christmas greetings or if Christmas cards were the predecessors of Valentine’s Cards. Either way, cards of all types became popular in some factions of European society, but they didn’t become popular among the masses until centuries later when mass production of paper made it possible for everyone to have access to the necessary materials.

Handmade Christmas cards began to fall out of favor in 1843, when a London gentleman named Sir Henry Cole hired an artist to custom-design cards he could send to family members and friends. An enterprising young woman in Massachusetts started the first greeting card company several years later, and a new industry was born, find out more about Christmas cards at http://www.charitygreetingcards.com.au/.

Greeting cards of all types became immensely popular in the United States during the late 1800s and the first part of the 20th century. Approximately one century later, card evolved into yet another form, and paper was forsaken in favor of digital cards sent over electronic devices. No matter what the medium, however, the sentiment remains the same.

Show Kindness With Christmas Cards

Every holiday season there are many people who do not get to spend time with their family or who otherwise might feel lonely for any number of reasons. One thing that can help bring them out of this slump is to receiving nice Christmas cards from someone who cares.

The best part is that these cards are available at rock bottom prices and can be custom made for each individual depending upon what they want to say.

It is all too easy to fall into a depression without the reminder that there are people out there who care.

The companies that produce Christmas cards are becoming more creative in the types of cards that they release. They want their customers to see that the variety is ever growing and always trying to meet the needs and desires of those who are purchasing these cards. They want to continue to expand the offerings that they have because this draws in more and more people to purchase their Christmas cards.

Christmas Cards are important

Why Christmas Cards Still Matter

Every year people send and receive billions of holiday and greeting cards. This is surprising because technology, such as e-cards and holiday letter emails, are becoming more popular. However, Christmas cards are still an important holiday tradition. Here are three reasons why these cards still matter.
Image 1

While e-cards and holiday greeting emails can be customized, Christmas cards are highly personalized. The process of typing and sending an email is very routine and mechanical. However, the process of selecting, purchasing, writing and mailing a card is personalized and sometimes time-consuming. Handwriting a meaningful message adds a personal touch. All of this involves a thoughtful focus on the intended receiver. This means the receiver will get an individualized card that was specially selected for them.

Between email, texting and IM, some people receive hundreds of messages a week. Because of this, the face value of digital messages is becoming more insignificant. This is also because of the transitory nature and universal use of digital communication. As a result, it is much easier to delete an email than throw away a personalized greeting card. In fact, a Christmas card with a handwritten message provides a genuine communication exchange that cannot be matched by an inanimate email. In the end, holding a physical card feels more authentic than a digital greeting card. Shop Christmas cards at http://www.charitygreetingcards.com.au/ today.

While Christmas cards are merely a small piece of paper, they convey a lot of real emotions. The pervasive use of digital communication has severely influenced their value when it comes to relationships. In addition to this, email is free while holiday cards can be somewhat expensive. A holiday card clearly demonstrates affection because the sender is willing to spend time and money on the receiver. In addition to this, writing a message on a card requires more thought and clearly expresses more affection.

Therefore, Christmas cards still matter because they are personalized, genuine and send an emotional message.

Creating the Best Christmas Cards

Tips to Creating the Best Christmas Card

When you’re putting together your special Christmas card for your loved ones, you want to make it not just memorable for them, but for your family, as well. And chances are, you want that to be a fun memory and not one that the kids resent for years to come. So how can you come together to create the perfect Christmas card and keep the whole family happy? By working together to address these 4 key factors of the perfect Christmas card photo!

You could just grab the most recent family photo and add it to a pretty stock card with some cool font that says “Merry Christmas”. But if you want to go all in, you’re going to need a new picture. And that picture will need a theme. Whether you want to go with something more traditional, something more humorous, or even something a little strange, get the whole family’s opinion on it and see what great ideas you come up with!

Once the theme is decided, everything else kind of falls into place. But one thing you’ll want to make sure to address is the background. You may want to just opt for a simple “blank” background by tossing a blanket up behind you, or you may want to go all out with props, scenery, and other personal touches. Whatever you decide to do, let the kiddos help. They’ll think it’s fun and you’ll be creating great memories along the way.

Rather than opting to have everyone wear the same sweater that seems to be so popular for Charity Greeting Cards www.charitygreetingcards.com.au let everyone express their individual style while having a common – you guessed it – theme. Make sure that everyone looks nice and put together and that they look like they belong together. Now you’re almost ready.

Personality doesn’t have to be everyone doing their own thing. But it can come through. Whether it’s allowing “bunny ears”, silly faces, or just beautiful smiles, let your wonderful, unique family shine through. After all, the people who will be receiving these Christmas cards already know and love you. They want to see a picture of the people they love – not a picture of the people they love staring flatly at a camera!

Christmas cards can be hard to come together for. But when you make it a family effort, making Christmas cards can be a great way to bond. Have your whole family sign the cards before you send them off to allow for an extra personal touch.
